Economicate is powered by SMF 2.0 RC1.2, which has many benefits but is currently only in pre-release status. As a result, it has a few software bugs.
One is to do with the "WYSIWYG" ("What you see is what you get") text editor, which basically makes writing feel like you're using a normal word processor, rather than requiring any unusual code.
WYSIWYG replaces standard "BBcode" editing in the quick reply dialogue by default, and can also be turned on in the normal reply dialogue by pressing the button with the red "
A" on it along the text editor's toolbar.
SYMPTOMS:
When you try to format an entire post with several line breaks, SMF’s WYSIWYG editor automatically cuts the line breaks from them and jams them all together in one big paragraph. Full explanationThis affects users of
Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome only (sadly some of the best browsers available!).
As soon as an update is released for SMF, needless to say Economicate will upgrade and hopefully lose this annoying bug. But until then, users of these browsers (including myself) will have to use one of the following workarounds for quick replying:
- Use Opera or Internet Explorer for the meantime
- Manually format your posts using BBCode <-- to do this, hit the button with the red "A" on it along the text editor's toolbar. BBcode can take some getting used to, but if you need any help, feel free to ask me.
===========
Q) Why not turn WYSIWYG off by default and just use BBcode?
A) I know plenty of users would be happy with this, but the majority of people online still use internet explorer and have not used BBcode before. Being the majority, I have chosen to give them what they would most want: WYSIWYG.
But I have decided to meet you half way. So WYSIWYG is on by default in quick reply, but is off by default in the advanced reply dialogue. I feel this is a reasonable compromise; do comment here if you disagree.
